Eloise Hawtin announced as the latest The Howden Way Spotlight Award Winner

July Spotlight Award winner is announced

We’re delighted to announce that Eloise Hawtin has been chosen as July’s Spotlight Award winner. As part of her award, Eloise wins a uvex exxential 3 riding helmet, courtesy of Zebra Products.

Presented jointly by The Howden Way and British Eventing, the Spotlight Award is a monthly recognition that celebrates individuals who embody the shared values of both organisations. Each month, British Eventing lead coaches are invited to nominate a recipient from their region who has been recognised for their contributions to the eventing community. The winner is then selected by Olympic Gold Medallist, Laura Collett, from a shortlist of contenders.

Coach Tim Rogers nominated Eloise for the July Spotlight Award on behalf of the Central region. He said: “I chose Eloise for this award because of her strong engagement and fantastic team spirit at Bishop Burton. She was incredibly supportive of others, whether things were going right or not, and brought a positive energy to the team throughout the event. Eloise showed great progress during training and then went on to compete well at U18 competitions. She also joined the Badminton course walk, where she was highly engaged and eager to learn. Overall, she’s been a brilliant representative of the region.”

Laura Collett, who has the pleasure of selecting the winning candidate, said: “Eloise has clearly been a supportive and engaged team member, particularly at Bishop Burton where she really contributed to the team atmosphere, encouraging her fellow team mates through the good and bad. She’s also made fabulous progress in her training which she’s applied brilliantly in competition. It’s clear she’s shown a great attitude and strong commitment to her eventing throughout the season.”

Eloise commented: “I was so excited when I found out I’d been picked for this award!
I’ve been riding Ted, my nine-year-old Connemara gelding, for the past two years. We’ve been competing at Novice level, and I was lucky enough to represent Central at the BE100u18 Championships – which was one of my favourite experiences so far. I loved being part of the team!

“Looking ahead, I’d love the chance to ride Ted in some Pony Trials. I’ve also found the regional training really helpful, not only for improving our performance but also as a fun way to meet other riders in my area. The sessions with Tim Rogers and Saffron Cresswell really helped improve Ted’s rhythm in the showjumping and also helped me work on my dressage position. It was also lovely to meet some of my teammates before Bishop Burton!”

The Howden Way and British Eventing are committed to fostering a culture of excellence, growth, and camaraderie, and the Spotlight Award is a testament to this shared commitment. Each month, a Grassroots (80-100) BE member is nominated by one of British Eventing's lead regional coaches based on their commitment to the following core values and attributes:

  • Prioritising horse welfare and athlete wellness
  • Embracing and supporting a collaborative, inclusive environment in training and or competition
  • Emphasising personal growth and skill development
  • Exhibiting sportsmanship and serving as a positive role model
