The 2025 season of The Howden Way-supported British Eventing Young Horse classes is well underway, having kicked off at the iconic Barbury Castle in March before heading north to Kelsall Hill International last weekend.
These dedicated age group classes for 6 and 7 year-olds have already attracted a high calibre of up-and-coming talent. Next up on the calendar is Cirencester Park, which will host one of the ten prestigious classes. The Gloucestershire venue has drawn particular attention from this year’s cohort of Young Horse Academy athletes, many of whom are targeting the event as a key stepping stone in their horses' development.
These standalone classes have proven to be an effective platform for showcasing the next generation of eventing talent, offering young horses the chance to compete on a level playing field and gain valuable exposure to the atmosphere and intensity of larger international venues.
Programme Director Justine Parker explained the thinking behind The Howden Way’s continued support:
"We felt it was really important to allow young horses to run alongside others on equal terms by supporting the classes so that they could be run independently. We have seen an extremely high calibre of young horses, including our own Young Horse Academy ones, contesting the classes already this season and we look forward to watching them at Cirencester and as the season progresses in the lead up to the 6 and 7 year old championships at Cornbury House Horse Trials."
Backed by an enhanced £500 prize fund per section, The Howden Way Young Horse classes are fast becoming a vital feature of the British eventing calendar—both as a proving ground for future stars and a celebration of the sport’s bright future.
