Defender Burghley Horse Trials (4-7 September) is delighted to announce a new partnership with the accessible training, coaching and development programme The Howden Way.
Launched in 2022 with investment from David Howden CBE, CEO and founder of specialist insurance broker Howden and founder of Cornbury House Horse Trials, The Howden Way has evolved into a unique training programme with three key areas. These are The Howden Way Rider Talent Academy, The Howden Way Young Horse Academy, and The Howden Way Thoroughbred Aftercare Programme (TAP). TAP was launched in 2024, and aims to provide everything you need to know when taking on an ex-racehorse, including subsidised training delivered by qualified coaches.
The Friday (5 September) at Burghley always showcases the best of up-and-coming equine talent in the form of the prestigious Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse Finals for four- and five-year-olds. It is therefore appropriate that combinations from The Howden Way Young Horse Academy will demonstrate their skills in a masterclass conducted by CCI5* rider and Fellow of the British Horse Society Kylie Roddy in the main arena on Friday after the conclusion of the CCI5* dressage.
Burghley will also be giving riders on The Howden Way Rider Talent Academy the opportunity to take part in a course-walk with one of the sport’s leading coaches, and will be raising awareness of TAP, including on Burghley’s Insights Stage with TAP trainer and former member of the New Zealand eventing team Lucy Jackson.
Justine Parker, Programme Director for The Howden Way, said: “We are delighted that The Howden Way is partnering with Burghley. This is a very exciting partnership, providing a fantastic platform to showcase the programmes involved and the opportunities they provide within the eventing and thoroughbred communities.”
Full details of Defender Programme’s highly popular masterclasses on Thursday, 4 September and Friday, 5 September will be released shortly.
