New Collaboration Enhances Traceability and Welfare of Former Racehorses

The Thoroughbred Aftercare Programme (TAP) and Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) are pleased to announce a new collaboration that reflects their shared commitment to the welfare and ongoing care of former racehorses.

Through closer working links, the two organisations will enhance traceability, education and support for owners, riders and retrainers of thoroughbreds. By combining RoR’s expertise in aftercare with TAP’s network of training and coaching opportunities, this joint effort will help strengthen the pathway for horses transitioning to life after racing.

Alongside a data sharing agreement for horses registered with TAP, both organisations will signpost each other’s initiatives to their respective audiences, reinforcing a shared vision of responsible ownership, continued learning and the highest standards of equine welfare.

Justine Parker, Programme Director at TAP, said: “We are delighted to be announcing this collaboration. It has always been our intention to complement the tremendous work delivered by RoR by providing top-class subsidised regional training to riders of thoroughbred horses along with educational material with input from industry leaders.

“We have worked  closely with the British Horseracing Authority, Racehorse Welfare and RoR from the initial concept and creation of the programme through to where we are today announcing a formal collaboration and we couldn’t be anymore delighted to do so.  Our unfaltering mission is to support the successful transition of racehorses into fulfilling second careers as riding horses and by working together we are able to offer an even stronger network of support to encourage more riders to consider a thoroughbred as their horse of choice.”

This new alliance marks an important step forward for the racing industry’s ongoing efforts to ensure that every racehorse is given the best chance at a safe and successful life after racing.

David Catlow, Managing Director of RoR, added: “For 25 years, RoR has been at the heart of supporting the transition of racehorses into new careers, providing education, events and guidance to owners and riders across the UK. This collaboration with TAP complements our existing activities by adding further regional training and support, helping to strengthen the network available to those retraining and riding former racehorses. By working together, we can offer even greater opportunities for thoroughbreds to thrive beyond the track.”
