Osberton International delivered a spectacular May Bank Holiday weekend for The Howden Way Rider Talent Academy, with riders winning all three international classes and showcasing the exceptional depth and promise of Britain’s next generation of eventing stars.
Competition began on Thursday with dressage for the CCI-S 2* and 3* classes, culminating on Saturday with the decisive jumping phases. The CCIP2*-S also ran all three phases on the Saturday, making for an action-packed day.
Young Rider Joshua Levett was the first to strike gold, taking the win in the opening CCI-S 3* international class. Sitting third after dressage, he delivered faultless jumping rounds to finish on his dressage score of 28.3 aboard 16-year-old gelding, This Ones On You. Joshua also claimed 4th place on Huberthus AC with another sub-30 dressage and double clear finishing on 29.6 penalties. Reflecting on his success, Josh credited his training:
“The Howden Way training at the beginning and throughout the season has really helped me keep my horses on form and improving in lots of different areas, as well as looking at how I can improve off the horse to best help them when I ride.”
Fellow Young Rider Anya Strilkowski, fresh off a win last weekend for her season opener, delivered another strong performance to claim 3rd place in the CCI-S 3* aboard K. The pair delivered a double clear within the time, finishing on their dressage score of 29.2. Young Riders impressively took three of the top four spots in this CCI-S 3* class delivering 3 out of the 4 scores to finish on their dressage in this competitive field.
In the CCI-S 2*, Junior Rider Oscar Fitzgerald led the way, claiming 1st place aboard 16-year-old gelding Super Cillious out of a large field of 97 starters. Lying second after dressage, Oscar produced two stellar jumping rounds to finish on his dressage score of 27.3. He also piloted RL Rolls Royce to another dressage-finish, taking 11th place on 32.7. Junior Rider Jago Jackson kept the pressure on, also maintaining his dressage score of 27.7 with a double clear inside the time to claim 2nd place aboard Barrington Highlight K, a new ride for him this season. Young Riders Annabel Finston with Camee De Muze, fresh from a podium finish at Kelsall Hill two weeks ago, delivered again to secure 3rd place on their dressage score of 29.5, while Cameron Swales travelled from Scotland and was rewarded with 4th place riding Udo A Z, another dressage-finishing result of 29.6.
The CCIP2*-S marked the final international class of the weekend, the first of the season for ponies, and was won by Florence Drewitt on Crossgales Into The Blu. Their double clear within the time saw them finish on a dressage score of 32.6. Maisie Greening continued her strong season with a 3rd place finish on Kilnaspic Lily, adding just 0.8 cross-country time penalties to complete on 33.6. Impressively, eight of the top eleven placings in the class went to The Howden Way Pony Riders, demonstrating the strength in depth across the programme.
This weekend’s results highlighted the remarkable consistency and dedication of these young riders. Their hard work, commitment to training, and focus are clearly paying off as they build momentum heading into key selection trials later this month.
